A business broker specializes in the sale of established businesses and in many instances the commercial real estate on which the business is located. A business broker in the state of Florida must have a real estate broker’s license even though the license courses necessary to become a real estate broker barely touches on the complex field of business brokerage. A professional business broker is an expert at finding qualified buyers for the owner while keeping the sale confidential from the public at large and the employees until the appropriate time.
To properly evaluate a business the broker should be well versed in valuation methodology and be capable of identifying the many variables that may add or subtract from value as well as enhance or hinder the sale of the business. One should be careful when choosing a broker. A track record of successfully completing multiple transactions by the broker is the best sign of their competence.
